The Black River Valley Senior Center
Our Mission
The Black River Valley Senior Center aims to be a friendly gathering place for locals and visitors of any age in Ludlow, Plymouth, and Cavendish. We design our programs and events to promote physical health and social well-being to create a sense of community. Overall, we hope to offer a space for friendships, independence, and memories.
Our History
The Black River Senior Center sits on the same property at the Black River Academy, which was opened in 1835. The building on the right (see image) shows the main school building, while the building on the left is now the Senior Center. The Academy hosted students for 103 years, with the last graduating class in 1938. Today, the Black River Historical Society and The Black River Academy Trustees continuously work on the restoration of the building. You can visit the neighboring Black River Academy Museum today and learn about the cultural heritage of the area.
